Moving Forward

Since we moved into The Hive, we have always wanted our own space and now 2 years later we have an opportunity. An opportunity with Dysart Colliery Silver Band, to have a space which is ours, a space we can do whatever we want to. A space to call home. Below you'll find all the info and a FAQ. The Place:

Glebe Park Centre, Glebe Park, Kirkcaldy KY1 1BN

Floorplans:

The proposed plan is that the band will have the yellow half of the building, and we will have the other half. There will be a wall separating the two.

The band kindly mocked up some visuals for us on what we could do with our space.

Parking:

Limited parking around the venue, but will be a priority for those with accessible needs. There are 2 free car parks located a 2 minute walk away.

Why is KGS moving? 

The Hive have been brilliant hosts and we cannot thank them enough for their support. It was always the plan that KGS should move into our 'own' premises, and this possible move to Glebe Park will give our community the space to grow. Our own destiny in our own hands.

How long until we can move in?

Currently unknown. When we have all the information we will make you well aware ahead of time

How long does an asset transfer take?

Anywhere from 6 to 18 months, this one is towards the shorter end of the scale as it's (fairly) straightforward.

Will opening hours change?

Yes we hope to be open for longer.  We are looking into systems for 24 hour access. 

Will the band's music affect us?

No, we had a member of the band play an instrument and we couldn't hear them.

Will the price of gaming tickets increase if we get our own space?

No

Can I volunteer to help with the move if it comes?

Yes, we will be putting a form on our website to sign up for help as there will be lots of jobs to be done!

What work needs to be done before we can move?

Our door needs changed to no longer be a fire escape. Toilets need to be modified.

Will there be food? 

We will work with the community to provide the services that they want. At first, it's unlikely that there will be hot food available, but please let us know what you want to see. We will have tea coffee and snacks 

How old is the heating? Will we get cold?

It's new 6/7 year old. Can heat the whole building. 

What are the windows like?

They are currently made of plastic, they will be upgraded.

How much storage is there?

Plenty 

Who is responsible for what?

Security of the building will be the responsibility of the landlord.  Everything within our space will be our responsibility.

How many fire escapes are there?

Currently just one, however we will be adding more.

Do you need donations for furniture?

Maybe we don't know yet. There is a lot in the building which we may be able to acquire.
